Frame Size & Fit Guide
Finding the right frame size is one of the most important steps when choosing new glasses. The correct fit ensures comfort, proper lens alignment, and a look that suits your face shape. This guide will help you understand frame measurements, how they affect fit, and how to choose the best size for your style and comfort.
Understanding Frame Measurements
Most eyeglass frames have three numbers printed on the inside of the temple arm. These measurements are in millimeters (mm):
Lens Width • Bridge Width • Temple Length
Example: 52–18–140
Here’s what each number means:
Lens Width
The horizontal width of one lens measured at its widest point.
Common range: 40mm–60mm
Affects how the frame looks on your face and how your eyes align with the lenses.
Bridge Width
The distance between the two lenses.
Common range: 14mm–24mm
Determines how the glasses sit on your nose and whether they feel snug or loose.
Temple Length
The length of the arms from the hinge to the tip behind your ear.
Common range: 120mm–150mm
Affects how securely and comfortably the glasses stay in place.
Lens Height
The vertical measurement of the lens.
Important for progressive and bifocal lenses to ensure proper space for reading segments.
How to Choose the Right Frame Size
1. Frame Width
The most important factor for overall fit.
A frame should be slightly wider than your face for balance and comfort.
Too wide feels loose; too narrow feels tight.
How to check:
There should be about one finger’s space between the frame and your temple.
2. Lens Width & Height
Your eyes should appear centered in the lenses.
General size guide:
Small: 50mm or below
Medium: 51mm–54mm
Large: 55mm or above
Choosing the right lens size ensures a balanced look and proper optical alignment.
3. Bridge Fit
The bridge determines nose comfort and prevents slipping.
A narrow bridge suits close-set eyes or smaller noses.
A wider bridge suits wider-set eyes or broader noses.
Tip:
If glasses slide down, the bridge is too large.
If glasses pinch, the bridge is too small.
4. Temple Length
Temples should sit naturally over your ears without pressure or gaps.
Too long and they slide down; too short and they pull forward.
Quick Fit Check
• Glasses feel comfortable on your nose
• Eyes sit centered in the lenses
• Temples sit smoothly behind the ears
• Frame doesn’t slide or pinch
• Slight space between your temples and frame sides
